KLENTNICE
Location
The viticultural village Klentnice lies directly at the foot of Stolová hora (Table hill) in the protected landscape area of Pálava about 5 km north of Mikulov.
History
The territory of the village had been settled almost continuously since the Bronze Age. Tabulová hora and Kotel are the most significant protected archeological localities. The name of the village signifies an original Slavonian settlement and is derived from a first name Klement. A manuscript dated 1332 states its mutilated German form Glemptitz. The original Slavonic inhabitants were decimated during borderland wars and German settlers came here in the 13th century. During its whole existence the village belonged to the Mikulov manor.
Relics
Sirotčí hrad (Rossenstein), now a ruin, raising above the village at the turn of the 13th and 14th century is the most significant relic. Among the registered national landmarks you will also find the wayside column on the way to Pavlov, the church of St. George, the vicarage and the statues of St. Florian and Jan Nepomucký. The look of St. George´s church nowadays originated in the years 1783 to 1785 its dedication, however, took place already in 1582. A prominent artist Ondřej Schweigl participated on its decoration.
Nature
Klentnice lies in the middle of interesting natural localities including the wilderness area Růžový vrch, national park Děvín, Tabulová hora and national monuments Kočičí kámen (Cat´s stone) and Kočičí skála (Cat´s rock).
